D. João II School - Portugal
The Sá da Bandeira school grouping is located in the city of Santarém and resulted from the aggregation, in June 2012, of the secondary school with the same denomination, present headquarters, and the D. João II Schools. It consists of 18 educational establishments, previously identified, spread over seven parishes. It is a reference group for the education of blind and low vision students and, at Salgueiro Maia Elementary School, since 2012-2013, it has been working as a specialized support unit for the education of students with congenital deafness and blindness. In the present school year, the school population totals 2795 children and students: 263 in pre-school education (13 classes), 662 in the 1st cycle of basic education (35 classes), 391 in the 2nd cycle (15 classes), 644 in the 3rd cycle (25 classes), 678 in the scientific-humanistic high school courses (25 classes) and 157 in the professional courses (6 classes). It also offers Portuguese courses for Speakers of Other Languages ​​(two classes). In partnership with the Conservatory of Music of Santarém, also provides specialized teaching of music in articulated regime for students from 5th to 12th grade. The schools are attended by 2% of foreign students, mainly from Romania, followed by Brazil and Moldova. As for school social action, 70% do not receive economic aid. Regarding information and communication technologies, 85% and 91% of students in primary and secondary education, respectively, have a computer and internet connection. Regarding the educational attainment of the students' fathers and mothers, the data indicate that in primary education, 32% have higher education and 25% of secondary education, while in secondary education the percentages are 30% and 26%, respectively. Of the 248 teachers who work in the schools, 84% belong to staff and also have a professional experience of 10 years or more. The 83 non-teaching workers include 66 operational assistants, 16 technical assistants and one psychologist. There are also 19 workers working in the schools, under the Employment-Insertion Contract program.
