05 june 2019
On June 5, the end of the school year was held by the D. João II School European Club, as part of its European project “The Rivers Tell”.
The main objective of this project is to understand each of the regions from their rivers, as well as their environmental impacts. In this context, the last activity of this year, carried out by professor António Pina Braz, with the help and support of teachers Teresa Viras, Conceição Durão, Helena Lourenço, Susana Stoffel, under the efficient and careful supervision of teachers Luís Silva, Miguel Caetano and Pedro Vargas, involved the teachers and students who during the school year developed activities under this project, being accompanied by many parents, in a total of almost fifty participants. The teachers thank all those who made it possible for them to carry out their project activities and how they were supported in their work throughout the school year, which included work exhibitions, sporting activities, study of European and environmental issues, contacts with European schools (through the e-twinning project) and two trips to schools in European countries (Greece and Lithuania) by teachers and pupils.

Walk with us to the river

On September 16th, teachers and students of the D. João II European School Club, accompanied by their parents and guardians, participated in the activity “Walk with us to the river”, promoted by Santarém City Council, our partner in the Erasmus + project “The rivers tell”.
This initiative, in addition to contributing to the wellbeing of each participant, marked the official launch of the European Mobility Week of Santarém and allowed people to know the urban biodiversity, as well as the one associated with water resources.
Along the course, approximately 4 km, which began at the ” Environmental house” and ended by the Tagus River (Ribeira de Santarém), biologist Rui Félix made known the animal and plant species that we can observe along this route.
Also within the scope of this initiative, the “By Our Rivers and streams” exhibition was inaugurated at the ” Environmental house”, which we had the opportunity to visit.

On September 21st, a group of teachers from the D. João II European School Club took part in the 7 km environmental walk/ canoeing, which connects Ribeira de Santarém to the avieira village of Caneiras. This initiative of the Municipality of Santarém included in the European Mobility Week, allowed us to collaborate in the launch of the 1st BIOSPOT to be implemented in the Municipality of Santarém and to know better the natural heritage and biodiversity of these places.
The TEJOAlive 2019 activity marks the evolution of an environmental strategy of bringing citizens closer to the environmental values of the Tagus River and is part of the set of tasks to be developed by the teachers and students of the European Club, under the Erasmus + project “The Rivers Tell”.
The commitment to the involvement of the population in this type of initiative, which was attended by a network of partners from the scientific and local knowledge area, enables citizens to be empowered to recognize the importance of the natural heritage and biodiversity of these places, encouraging them in the preservation and identification of new species.
It was another day of learning, sharing and coexistence among all participants.

Ecological Mobile Workshop
This workshop emerged as another activity that highlights the concern for the environment and the sustainability of our planet by the students of this project. In addition to raising awareness about saving water, which is essential to the life of all living beings, it is also important to reduce the amount of waste we produce on a daily basis. It is shown, in a playful way, a possible reuse of waste - ecological mobiles, giving, with creativity, a second use.
