Italy School
Raffaello Giovagnoli is a "Comprehensive" Institute, that is an institute including six minor schools ,
nursery, primary and secondary, with about 1400 students aged from 3 to 14. There are 80 students
with severe disabilities and with special needs, the staff consists of about 140 teachers and 27 nonteaching
units. It is located in Monterotondo town, near Rome, with a medium and heterogeneous
social-economic-cultural background. The goals of our school are in line with Europe 2020: a strategy
for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in a lifelong learning perspective. Our first goal is to
promote the acquisition of transversal key competences such as digital competence, learning to
learn, sense of initiative and entrepreneurship, cultural awareness and expression. Our second aim is
to achieve a synergistic relationship among education, research and innovation. We consider our
school a place of interaction, where experiences meet the evolutionary stages of each individual. The
learning process is intentional and constructive, its purpose is to share knowledge among pairs and
to adjust the learning process choosing the best practice. We promote a professional community in
which each one, with different specialization and different responsibility, takes care of the process of
education and carries on a whole school project. One of the project activities carried out by our
institution is "MY SCHOOL FOR PEACE" . It had the Unesco recognition for its aims, such as:
transfering to the students the value of DIALOGUE; contributing to the development of education for
active citizenship. Giovagnoli school has already experienced the Comenius and Erasmus calls since
2007 and, since then, it has continued to design activities in partnership with local and private
agencies, professional organizations and different schools to improve and personalize student
learning course. The whole staff usually approaches a lifelong learning method by acquiring tools and
strategies, adapting, refocusing and changing their practices, content and mode of operation
according to the actual social ,cultural, and educational students' needs. Numerous internal training
courses have been activated recently for the acquisition of knowledge and skills of English (English
for all and Clil), digital and informatic (Digital Coffee), innovative use of spaces (Design classroom
layout), scietific skills (STEM) to improve and reinforce teachers and project team skills. The four
project team persons are able to afford every tasks and duties, they have been experienced in
European partnerships, they have a good knowledge of English, organizing actions and digital skills;
they are usually involved in national and local projects to promote a professional community. The
European development to which we are focusing is intriguing the whole teaching staff, for which we
record an increasing participation of colleagues who can thus become part of the team if necessary.
